Overview

This self-initiated IFFX project was built as an exploration of character creation through the visual language of thriller and horror. We developed the creature from its underlying form through sculptural detail, decayed skin, layered grime, and the material response needed to make the character feel physically present.

The look was designed and tested under unforgiving low-key, high-contrast lighting, where subtle surface decisions can disappear or become exaggerated. Iterating the character and lighting together allowed us to preserve subsurface depth, shadow-side readability, and close-up texture detail through the final rendered presentation.

  • Creature form and silhouette
  • Decayed skin response
  • Subsurface detail
  • Layered grime and wear
  • Cinematic lighting tests
  • Genre-appropriate realism
  • Material response under extremes
  • Close-up texture fidelity
  • Shadow-side readability
  • Finished character presentation
